Checkout optimization: removing whatever stops people from clicking “buy”

Checkout optimization starts not with ideas but with a walkthrough. We take your store and follow the customer's path to the end: add a product, choose delivery, pay, deliberately break the payment and look at what the person will see. The outcome is not a list of tips but a list of specific points, with an explanation of why the order falls through at each one. Then we remove what can be removed and tell you honestly what remains outside our control.

What's included

Complete list of work and what you get as a result

  • a list of the points where checkout falls through, with the reason for each
  • steps and fields cut down to those without which the order genuinely cannot be shipped
  • the delivery cost visible before confirmation, not after
  • clear error messages: what happened and what to do next
  • a separate check of each “delivery method × payment method” pair
  • a failed-payment scenario: the customer returns to the order instead of starting over
  • analytics events on the checkout steps, so drop-offs can be seen without guesswork from now on
  • testing on real phones, not just in a browser emulator
  • a short report: what was changed, what remains and why
When this service isn't right

What's not included — so there are no surprises at delivery

  • changing prices, the product range and delivery terms — these are the owner's decisions
  • managers' work after the order is placed
  • promises of conversion growth in percentages
  • fixing problems on the payment provider's or delivery service's side
  • rewriting the store from scratch under the guise of optimization
Who it's for

Situations where this service delivers results

Scenario 1 of 4

A store with traffic but no orders

People come in, browse, add to cart — and disappear. Until the whole path has been walked by hand, the cause remains a guess, and changes are made at random.

We'll review your situation in a free audit

Free review of your checkout

We follow the customer's path to the end — including the scenario where payment fails. We look at the mechanics, not the design.

What we measure

  • How many steps and fields are actually neededWe count what in the form is really necessary for shipping and what was added “just in case” and costs you some of your orders.
  • Whether checkout is possible without registrationA mandatory account before payment is one of the most common mechanical reasons for an abandoned cart.
  • When the customer learns the delivery costAn amount that appears at the last step reads as a surprise, and some customers leave exactly there.
  • What happens when payment failsWe check it deliberately: whether the person gets back to their order or has to start all over again.
  • Behavior on a real phoneThe keyboard, field sizes, long lists of delivery branches, the confirm button under the browser bar.
  • Whether drop-offs are visible in analyticsIf there are no events on the steps, any assessment of the changes is taken on faith. This gets fixed first.

What you get

  • a list of drop-off points with the reason for each
  • a recording of the checkout walkthrough on a phone
  • a breakdown of what can be fixed quickly and what needs rework
  • an estimate of the work broken down by stage

Timeline: 2–4 working days

Why is it free

Without a walkthrough, any figure would be guesswork and any advice generic. We state the scope only after we have seen your particular store.

What's next

You get a list and an estimate. Then you decide for yourself: do it with us, do it in-house or not do it at all — the list stays with you.

What affects the price

Why two seemingly identical tasks are priced differently

  • Number of delivery and payment combinationsWhat gets checked is not the number of methods but the number of pairs. Four delivery methods and four payment methods make sixteen scenarios, and each one can break in its own way.
  • State of the existing checkout codeIf the checkout has already been rewritten several times on top of the standard one, the existing logic has to be understood first. This is the least predictable part, and it is exactly what the review reveals.
  • Whether there are analytics eventsWhen there are no events, they have to be set up first — otherwise there will be nothing to check the result of the changes against. It is a small but mandatory stage.
  • Depth of changesRemoving two fields and showing the delivery cost earlier is quick work. Rebuilding the sequence of steps is a different scope, even though it looks similar from the outside.
  • Number of devices for testingTesting on several real phones takes longer than one pass in a desktop browser — but it is exactly what catches the problems a customer would otherwise find.
  • Whether new mechanisms are neededOne-click purchase, payment in installments or a free-delivery threshold are not optimization of what exists but additions, and they are estimated separately.
Cases

Tasks and results in numbers — all metrics measured by us

a sample of 41 Ukrainian online stores, of which 39 responded and a product page was checked on 30

Task
See how many stores use ways to shorten the path to an order: one-click purchase, a free-delivery threshold, payment in installments.
Solution
An external measurement of the home page and one product page from the sitemap: traces of features in the HTML, product, price and attribute markup. The presence of a trace, not the quality of the implementation.
Result
Measured on 17 September 2026, 35 stores: one-click purchase is visible on 10 sites out of 25; a free delivery threshold based on order value: 3 sites out of 25; payment in installments: 7 sites out of 25.

Kvant Energy

a retail online store of heating equipment, catalog of ~3,500 SKUs

Task
Bring the full range of heating equipment online (bimetallic radiators, electric radiators, breezers, fan heaters, underfloor heating, thermostats), with navigation and filters for comparing technical specifications, and a checkout that serves both retail customers and VAT-registered sole proprietors and LLCs.
Solution
A store on OpenCart 3 (oct_showcase theme, nginx). Two language versions, uk/ru, with correct hreflang and x-default. Checkout with monobank, cash on delivery, cash on collection and bank transfer invoices for VAT-registered sole proprietors and LLCs. Four delivery methods: Nova Poshta, Meest Express, Delivery Auto, pickup in Kharkiv. GTM/GA4, Google Maps and the Telegram/Viber/WhatsApp messengers are connected.
Result
3,565 product pages in the live catalog (measured 31 July 2026 with the standard OpenCart search and an empty query: 36 pages of 100 items, the last one with 65). TTFB 0.52 s, full HTML load 0.66 s at 296 KB of markup. 4 payment methods and 4 delivery methods at checkout. Two language versions with valid hreflang and x-default.

Process steps

Transparent stages with approval at every step

Total duration:5–20 days

  1. Walkthrough and measurements

    2–4 working days

We go through checkout on a computer and a phone, including the failed-payment scenario. We look at analytics if there are events. The result is a list of drop-off points with the reasons explained.

  2. Agreeing on the scope

    1–2 working days

Together we choose what we do now and what we leave for later. Here we also decide whether new mechanisms are needed or whether we first remove obstacles in the existing checkout.

  3. Removing obstacles

    3–10 working days

We cut steps and fields, show the delivery cost before confirmation and make checkout possible without mandatory registration. We work in a test environment.

  4. Errors and edge cases

    2–6 working days

We write clear error messages, build the return path after a failed payment and check the behavior when a product has run out or a delivery branch is unavailable.

  5. Analytics and device testing

    2–5 working days

We set up events on the checkout steps, go through every “delivery × payment” pair on real phones and fix what we find.

  6. Deployment and monitoring

    1–3 working days

We roll out the changes, watch the first orders and hand over a short report: what was changed, what remains and why. Then the 30-day warranty applies from the date the acceptance act is signed.

What we need from you

We can't start without this — best to prepare in advance

  1. access to the store and the test environment, if there is one
  2. access to analytics for at least the last few months
  3. a list of the delivery and payment methods the checkout has to support
  4. which orders the managers consider problematic from experience
  5. whether changes can be made to the live store, and in what window
  6. who on your side accepts the work

If something is missing — let us know, we'll help you gather it or do it as a separate task.

FAQ

Most frequently asked questions — with concrete answers

How many more orders will I get?

Nobody can honestly say, and we won't. The decision to buy depends on price, availability, delivery time and trust in the store; checkout is responsible only for making sure a decision already made does not fall through on mechanics. We remove the obstacles and set up events that let you see for yourself what has changed — a more honest result than a promised percentage.

Where does the work start?

With a walkthrough. We follow the customer's path to the end, including the scenario where payment fails. That last scenario is the one nobody usually checks, and it creates the worst impression: the person paid, something went wrong, and they don't know whether they have an order.

Why do you check each delivery and payment pair separately?

Because what usually breaks is not a method but a combination. Cash on delivery with pickup, card with courier, bank transfer with Nova Poshta — each pair has its own set of fields and rules. A store with four delivery methods and four payment methods has sixteen scenarios, and checking one “typical” scenario guarantees nothing.

Do we need one-click purchase?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It is a mechanism for impulse purchases and a simple product range; for a store where you have to choose a variant and specify a delivery branch, it adds little. It is worth removing obstacles in the existing checkout first, and adding new mechanisms once it is clear they are really needed.

How long does it take?

11 to 30 working days. Most of the time goes not into the changes themselves but into checking combinations and edge cases. We give the exact timeline after the review, once the scope and the state of the code are clear.

The store is live — won't you have to take it down?

No. We work on a test copy and touch the live store only when the changes are deployed, which is agreed in advance. If you need a window with minimal traffic, we choose it based on your statistics.

What if something breaks after the changes?

A 30-calendar-day warranty applies from the date the acceptance act is signed: errors that are our fault are fixed free of charge. This is a clause in the contract. In addition, we leave analytics events in place, so a problem becomes visible faster than through customer complaints.

Do you work only with OpenCart?

Mostly yes, it is our main platform for online stores. But we have also reviewed checkouts on WooCommerce and on custom platforms. If you have something else, we will tell you honestly during the review whether we can be useful.

This is how your store can look on a phone: a collection banner, popular products and a cart one tap away. Tap “Add to cart” and the counter in the header updates, just like in a real store.

  • Product cardsPhoto, price and a button — no extra page to open.
  • One-tap cartThe counter in the header updates instantly, like in a real store.

  • We work under a contract

There is no price list on the site on purpose: the same work differs several times over between two clients, and a “from” figure explains nothing in that case. First a free audit — we count your pages, duplicates and speed — then we name the sum and the deadline and fix both in the contract.
