Shop with self-delivery: points, reserve and order readiness

An online store with self-pickup is a store where the customer places an order online and picks it up at your location and pays on the spot or in advance. We do it on OpenCart: a directory of points with a map in the checkout, availability at a specific point, a reserve for a given period and a notification when the order is collected. The difficulty here is not in the "Pickup" button, but in the fact that the person who came took the product, and did not hear "already sold". The term is 10-30 working days, and the difference is determined by one answer: whether you keep balances by points separately.

What's included

Complete list of work and what you get as a result

  • Drop-off point directory - address, schedule, phone, coordinates, how to get there: one source of data for checkout, point pages and letters
  • Selecting a point in the checkout using a map and a list with a filter by city and district - the buyer does not guess which one is closer
  • Availability at a specific point in the product card instead of the total balance — when accounting allows it
  • Reserve after registration for a specified period with automatic withdrawal - the product is not sold twice, and the warehouse is not overgrown with forgotten armors
  • Payment by choice: online in advance or on the spot, with a rule by price or product category
  • Notification of readiness to messenger, SMS or mail - with the issue number, address, schedule and storage period
  • The issuing code, by which the order is found at the point in seconds, without searching by last name and without calling the manager
  • A separate screen for the point employee: what to collect, what to issue today, the "issued" button with time recording
  • Pages of points with separate addresses with LocalBusiness markings and opening hours - they work for "near me" requests
  • Rule for mixed basket: wait for assembly at one point or split the order - the decision is shown to the buyer before payment
  • Analytics: individual pick-up, readiness and actual drop-off events to count no-shows
  • Terms: 50% down payment, two rounds of edits at the design stage, warranty period of 30 calendar days

Situations where this service delivers results

Scenario 1 of 4

One point, and self-delivery is agreed on the phone

The buyer writes "leave it, I'll come over", the manager writes it down on a piece of paper and goes to put it away. Half of these orders are lost, the other half arrive during non-working hours. The store transfers the agreement to the system: the order receives an issue number, the product is placed in reserve for a specified period, and the buyer sees the schedule of the point even before he leaves the house.

We'll review your situation in a free audit

Free self-delivery audit

Pickup works as long as the buyer is sure that it will not be in vain. The audit examines whether your store can deliver that assurance — and what it takes in terms of data and process.

What we measure

  • Points and their dataHow many delivery points are there, does each have an address, schedule, phone number and coordinates. Without coordinates, the map in the checkout will not be collected, and the point page will not receive markings.
  • Availability by pointsDo you know what is in a particular store or do you only have the total balance. This is the main fork of the estimate: showing availability by point requires accounting by warehouses.
  • Reserve and its termIs the product reserved after ordering and for how much? Without a reserve, a pick-up order is a notification, not a commitment to the buyer.
  • Payment on the spot and in advanceDo you accept payment at the point, is there a terminal and is online payment required for pickup. The number of absences depends on this direction.
  • How the buyer will know about readinessWho reports and when. Without automatic notification, half of the people call and the other half arrive before the order has been collected.
  • Pickup location at the checkoutHow visible it is. For reference: in the store of professional tools we measured, self-delivery in the city is one of the four methods of collection out of ten methods of payment.

What you get

  • Document by Points: What's in the data, what's missing for the map, filter, and markup.
  • The scheme of availability: the total balance or accounting for warehouses - and what exactly this changes in the scope of work.
  • Description of the issuance process from registration to delivery of goods, with roles and points of failure.
  • Conversation for 30–40 minutes on the document, without presentation.

Timeline: 2-4 working days

Why is it free

Because the key fork — do you have point-by-point accounting — is not visible from the outside, but it changes the amount of work many times over. Several days of measurement save from rewriting the estimate in the middle of the project.

What's next

After the audit — the amount and term by stages with dates, contract, invoice, report.

Short form: your contact and site URL

  • Contract, act and 30-day warranty

Every project gets a written contract: scope, deadlines, amount, acceptance procedure. After delivery — act and invoice, then 30 calendar days of warranty.

  • Sole proprietor & bank transfer

The contractor is a registered sole proprietor. Payment by invoice with closing documents.

  • Rights & access — yours

Code, design and materials transfer to you after full payment. Domain, hosting, repository and analytics are registered to you.

  • Client portal instead of email chains

During the project you get access to a portal: contracts, invoices, acts and project status in one place.

  • European clients

Among our work — projects for Norway, Bulgaria, Moldova and Spain.

  • Verifiable numbers

Every case in the portfolio comes with a link to a live site and a technical measurement.

  • Audit first, then pricing

There is no price list on the site intentionally: the scope of the same work differs multiples between clients.

  • We say "no" when unsure

If the task isn't ours or the deadline is unrealistic — we tell you upfront.

What affects the price

Why two seemingly identical tasks are priced differently

  • One point or networkOne address is the checkout block, the map page and the readiness letter. Twelve addresses - a directory, a filter by city, separate access to each point and a rule for the order that came to pick up the wrong place.
  • Where are the balances by points taken fromThe most expensive line. The total balance is several days' worth of work. Inventory balances from the accounting system are already an exchange: export schedule, error handling, site behavior at the moment when the exchange did not respond. The exchange does not correct the account: if there is a re-sort in 1C, the site will accurately show the re-sort.
  • Reserve and its rulesFixed hours for the entire catalog are done quickly. Different deadlines by category, extension of the reserve at the buyer's request, return to sale with a message to the manager — this is the logic that is described before development, not during.
  • Payment on the spot"Pay on delivery" is a checkmark in the checkout. Terminal at the point, fiscal check via Checkbox and reconciliation with online payments - a separate work with the cash process, together with your accountant.
  • Interface for the employee of the pointThere is a computer and a person works in the administration — a separate role and an order filter are enough. Issued by the seller from the phone between buyers - a screen under the finger is required, and this is several days of design and layout in addition to the base.
  • NotificationA letter to the post office is included in the work. SMS and messengers are a gateway, templates, a repeat queue and a separate bill for traffic. The economy here is not in the channel, but in the fact that the manager stops calling.

online store of professional tools, catalog of over 6,000 items

Task
Sell a professional tool to both a retail craftsman and a company with VAT: a catalog with filters, detailed cards and checkout, which covers the methods of calculation and receipt common in Ukraine, including self-delivery in the city.
Solution
OpenCart store with two language versions. Ten payment methods — from online cards and installments of two banks to cashless with VAT and a terminal in the store itself. Four methods of receipt, including self-delivery in Kyiv. The coordinates and plot of the point are given machine-readable via JSON-LD OnlineStore with PostalAddress and GeoCoordinates.
Result
6,486 unique product pages and 361 categories in the site map. Self-delivery is one of the four methods of receiving out of ten methods of payment, and the terminal in the store allows you to pay by card on the spot. TTFB 671.2 ms at 407.8 KB HTML, measured on 07/31/2026. We recently found a critical defect: the certificate is valid, but the bare domain returned a 301 to an insecure protocol — the language redirect from the root, not the certificate, was broken. And second: the sitemap took 34.2 seconds to generate and contained each product an average of 3.9 times under different category paths.

Process steps

Transparent stages with approval at every step

Total duration:10–30 days

  1. Brief and decision on the issuance process

    1-3 working days

We go through the order path from the button to the delivery of the goods: who collects, in how many hours, who indicates readiness, what is done with the uncollected. We fix the term of the reserve and the payment rule. A short document is produced, according to which the estimate is calculated and the work is accepted.

  2. Points Directory and Points Pages

    2-4 working days

We introduce addresses, graphics, telephone numbers and coordinates into one entity, from which the checkout, pages, and letters live. Each point receives an address on the site with a map, LocalBusiness markings and a description of the drive-in - this is where requests with the name of the district come.

  3. Availability by points and reserve

    3-8 working days

The most difficult stage. We connect the inventory balances from the accounting system, decide how to show the position that is not there at the point, and enable the reserve: a separate movement with a deadline and automatic withdrawal according to the schedule. Here is the behavior of the site when the exchange is silent.

  4. Checkout with point selection

    2-5 working days

A map and a list are nearby, a filter by city and district, a hint about the schedule and the storage period are simply in the form. Self-pickup is on the list of methods of collection on a par with carriers. Payment — online or on the spot, according to the rule from the first stage.

  5. Notifications and issue screen

    1-6 working days

Notification of readiness with the issue number, address and storage period - mail, SMS or messenger, through a queue with repeated attempts. For a point — a list of orders to be collected and to be issued with a button to confirm the fact.

  6. End-to-end test and transfer

    1-4 working days

We chase live orders: regular, mixed cart, uncollected after the end of the reserve, canceled. We check that the events of self-pickup selection and delivery reach the analytics. We go through the process with a person from the point, give access and instructions.

Technologies & integrations

What we build on and what it connects to

Stack

  • OpenCart 4.x is the default; we stay under 3.x when we need a module without a quad assembly
  • PHP and MySQL — we keep the reserve in a separate table of movements, and not by reducing the balance field: otherwise, the return of the product for sale cannot be distinguished from a manual correction
  • Map of points on Google Maps or OpenStreetMap - both require address coordinates, without them the list remains
  • JSON-LD LocalBusiness with business hours - the markup matches the data, but does not replace the Google Business Profile: in the local edition, the main profile, reviews and actual proximity
  • A queue of deferred tasks for notifications and redundancies — so that the checkout does not wait for the gateway
  • API of the accounting system for inventory balances - the exchange has a periodicity, and there is always a window between exports, in which a position can be bought twice

How this option differs from the alternative

Who pays for shoulder deliverynone: the product is already at your point
View the product before payingit is possible: the seller is nearby, there is unpacking and consultation
Dimensionslimited only by your point
Speedhours: the buyer leaves as soon as the notification arrives
Who is to blame for the failure?you: no-show, the goods were not collected, the point was closed earlier
What the site providesdirectory of points, availability, reserve, issue code, marked pages
What we need from you

We can't start without this — best to prepare in advance

  1. List of points: address, daily schedule, telephone, and if available, the coordinates of the entrance, not the building.
  2. A direct answer, do you keep balances for each point separately, and in which system.
  3. The term of the reserve and the decision of what to do with the product after it ends.
  4. Payment rule: is prepayment required for pickup and from what amount.
  5. Access to the site, hosting and accounting system — API keys are issued to you, not to the contractor.
  6. One person with the right to make a decision on the issuing process and one employee from the point with whom we will go through the finished screen.

If something is missing — let us know, we'll help you gather it or do it as a separate task.

FAQ

Most frequently asked questions — with concrete answers

Is it possible to show availability in a specific store?

It is possible if you keep balances in the warehouses in the accounting system and give them via API. Then, in the card, the buyer sees where the position is now, and immediately chooses a point. If there is one account for the entire company, there is no need to show availability by points: it remains to be confirmed when processing the order. This is a normal working option, but the painted "in stock" checkmarks are probably the most expensive mistake in self-delivery, because every mistake costs you a buyer who came for nothing.

How long to keep the reserve?

We advise you to start with 48 hours and then look at the reversibility. A day is not enough: a person orders in the evening, and can pick it up only the day after tomorrow after work. A week is too long: running items hang in armor and are not for sale to anyone. Technically, the reserve does not reduce the balance in the card of the product, but falls in a separate movement with a term; kron removes the overdue and returns the position to sale, and the manager sees exactly what has returned. The term can be made different for different categories.

Make prepayment mandatory for pickup?

Depends on what you are selling. Prepayment significantly reduces no-shows, but for an expensive product, it cuts off the buyer who goes to see it. The working compromise is the rule according to the amount: up to the conditional limit we issue without payment, above - only after online payment or with partial prepayment. The rule starts in the settings and changes without the developer, so it can be tested in practice and replayed.

How will the buyer know that the order is ready?

Automatically, at the moment when the employee clicked "collected". Mail, SMS or messenger - your choice, in the message the issue number, address, schedule and the date until which the order is saved. The notification goes through the queue with retries, so that the gateway, which is unavailable for a second, does not eat the message silently. Without this step, self-delivery turns into a ringing, and this is where it breaks down most often.

Why separate pages for points if there are contacts?

The contact page responds to the "how to contact you" request, and the point page responds to the request with the name of the district or metro station. These are different requests and different people. Therefore, each point receives an address with a map, a schedule, a photo of the entrance and the markup of LocalBusiness. Fair border: the markup does not replace the card in Google Business Profile - in the local edition, the profile, reviews and actual distance to the person decide. The site here reconciles the data and removes contradictions, nothing more.

What to do with the basket, where part of the product is at the point, and part is in stock?

Choose one rule and show it for payment. Or the order waits until everything is brought to one point, and the buyer sees the date; or is divided into two parts: one is taken away, the other is received by the carrier. Both options are working. Only the third is bad - when a person finds out about it on the spot, and the claim still comes to you, instead of the warehouse.

We have 1C, will you pick up the stock from the shops?

Yes, if 1C or BAS really records by warehouses and there is access to the API. We collect the balances according to the schedule and show them by points. Two fair limits. The first: the exchange does not correct the accounting — the site will show reorders and undisplayed write-offs accurately and quickly. The second: any exchange has a periodicity, so there is a window between exports, in which the last position can be bought twice; the reserve narrows this window, but does not close it completely.

How long does the implementation take and what does the deadline depend on?

10-30 working days. The lower limit is one point, manual confirmation of readiness, payment on the spot: it's actually a checkout, a page and a letter. The top is a network with availability at each point, a reserve, a screen for the seller and notifications in the messenger, because there is added the exchange with the accounting system and testing on live orders. The deadline is calculated from the approved description of the process, not from the first letter: until it has been decided who will collect and in how many hours, there is nothing to develop.

Send a list of points and say whether you keep balances for each.

In response, there is a document on the data and the issuing process, followed by the amount and term by stages. If you do not need self-delivery now, you will hear about it in the first email.
