Repeat orders: the customer buys the same thing every month but starts from scratch every time

Some goods are bought on a cycle: consumables, household chemicals, stationery, pet food, components. Such a customer has already decided everything — they do not need to choose, they need to repeat. If the store makes them go through the catalog from scratch every time, sooner or later they will leave for a store where it takes a minute. A repeat order is one of the cheapest features with a noticeable effect, specifically for regular customers.

What's included

Complete list of work and what you get as a result

  • repeating a previous order in one step, with the option to remove or add something
  • saved purchase lists with custom names: “monthly”, “for the warehouse”
  • correct behavior when an item is no longer available: we show it explicitly and offer a replacement instead of silently dropping it
  • showing the price change since the last order, so the total is no surprise
  • repeat for guests via a link in the confirmation email, with no mandatory account
  • a reminder when the next purchase is due, if the frequency is predictable and the customer has agreed to it
  • analytics events that show how many orders are placed as a repeat
  • handover with a description of how it works and what the manager sees
When this service isn't right

What's not included — so there are no surprises at delivery

  • managers' work on repeat orders
  • automatic charges without the buyer's separate consent
  • promises of growth in repeat sales
  • mailings without the customer's consent
  • restoring order history that does not exist in the system
Who it's for

Situations where this service delivers results

Scenario 1 of 4

A store selling consumables

Medical consumables, stationery, household chemicals, components. The customer buys a similar set at a predictable frequency, and the speed of repeating matters more than the depth of the catalog.

We'll review your situation in a free audit
Free review

We check whether you have recurring purchases at all: the feature is not useful for everyone, and the data shows it.

What we measure

  • What share of customers buy againIf there are almost no repeat purchases, a repeat order will change nothing — and we will say so plainly.
  • How similar the repeat orders areIf the customer buys something different every time, a repeat will not help. The feature works where the set is predictable.
  • Whether there is a customer account and whether it is usedWithout an account, you need a repeat via a link in the email — a different implementation.
  • How often items disappear from the catalogThe more often the range changes, the more important the behavior for a missing item.
  • Whether order history is storedThere is nothing to repeat if history is not kept or gets purged. We check this first.
  • Whether there is a predictable frequencyIf there is, reminders make sense. If not, they turn into spam and do harm.

What you get

  • an answer on whether you have recurring purchases and how similar they are to each other
  • an estimate of what share of orders could be placed as a repeat
  • an estimate of the scope of work
  • an honest answer if you do not need the feature

Timeline: 1–3 working days

Why is it free

This feature is not useful for every store. Your data shows that within an hour, and there is nothing to charge for such a check.

What's next

You get an answer and an estimate. Then you decide for yourself.

What affects the price

Why two seemingly identical tasks are priced differently

  • Whether there is a customer accountWith an account, a repeat is simple. Without one you need access via a link in the email, which means separate work on the link's security.
  • Saved listsRepeating the last order is the basic option. Several named lists with editing are a separate feature, needed mostly in B2B.
  • Behavior when the catalog changesAn item has disappeared, the price has changed, the product was replaced with an equivalent — each case needs a decision, and this is where most of the work lies.
  • RemindersThey need a contact channel, the customer's consent and a frequency rule. Without a rule, reminders become annoying and backfire.
  • Typical order sizeRepeating a three-item order saves a minute. For forty items it saves half an hour, and that is where the feature pays off fastest.
  • State of the store's codeIf the account and cart have already been rewritten, we first need to understand the existing logic. This is the least predictable part.

Process steps

Transparent stages with approval at every step

Total duration:5–20 days

  1. Reviewing the data

    1–3 working days

We look at the share of repeat purchases and how similar one customer's orders are. If there is no recurrence, we say so right away.

  2. Agreeing on behavior

    1 working day

We settle the main questions: what to do with items that are no longer available and how to show a price change. The decision is yours; we raise the questions.

  3. Repeat order

    2–6 working days

We build a repeat of the last order with the option to edit it before confirmation. We work in a test environment.

  4. Lists and guest access

    2–6 working days

We add saved lists if you need them, and a repeat via link for those who bought without an account.

  5. Reminders and analytics

    1–4 working days

If needed, we set up reminders with a frequency rule and the customer's consent. We add events so you can see how the feature is used.

  6. Rollout and monitoring

    1 working day

We roll out the changes and watch the first repeat orders. After that, a 30-day warranty applies from the date the acceptance act is signed.

A repeat order or searching the catalog again

How this option differs from the alternative

Time for a repeat purchasea minute
Risk of forgetting an itemminimal: the list is saved
Load on the managerfewer “what did I order last time” questions
Who it suitsrecurring purchases with a predictable set
Costa small one-off job
What we need from you

We can't start without this — best to prepare in advance

  1. access to the store and a test environment
  2. what share of customers buy again and how similar their orders are
  3. whether there is a customer account and whether it is used
  4. what to do with items that are no longer in the catalog
  5. whether reminders are needed and how often
  6. who on your side accepts the work

If something is missing — let us know, we'll help you gather it or do it as a separate task.

FAQ

Most frequently asked questions — with concrete answers

What if an item from the last order is no longer available?

Show it explicitly and offer a replacement if there is one. The worst option is to silently drop the item from the repeated order: the customer confirms and later finds out that the product they needed never arrived. We bring this decision to you before work starts, because there are several options and they affect trust differently.

And if the price has changed?

Show the new price next to the old one at the moment of repeating. This does not “spoil the impression” — quite the opposite: the customer sees the honest figure and confirms knowingly. Silently swapping the total is the fastest way to get a cancellation after checkout.

Is a customer account needed for this?

Not necessarily. Customers who bought as guests can get the repeat through a link in the confirmation email. This matters especially where registration was removed on purpose: otherwise we would remove one obstacle and immediately create another.

Is it worth reminding customers about their next purchase?

Only if the frequency is predictable and the customer has agreed to it. A monthly reminder to someone who buys once a year is spam that costs more than the extra sale. In the review we look at the actual purchase interval instead of turning reminders on by default.

How long does it take?

7 to 20 working days. The repeat itself is quick to build; the time goes into behavior when the catalog changes and into guest access. We give the exact timeline after the review.

Do you guarantee more repeat sales?

No. The feature removes friction for those who are already ready to buy again, but it does not bring back people who were unhappy. We set up analytics events so you can see the share of orders placed as a repeat and judge for yourself.

Who definitely does not need this?

Stores where every purchase is unique: furniture, appliances, jewelry. Nobody there will use a repeat, and it is more honest to say so in the review than to build a feature that sits idle.

Can you set up regular delivery with automatic charges?

Technically yes, but that is a subscription, and it needs separate consent to charges, cancellation rules and handling of failed payments. We do not add automatic charges “along the way” — it is a separate decision with different obligations to the customer.

  • We work under a contract

There is no price list on the site on purpose: the same work differs several times over between two clients, and a “from” figure explains nothing in that case. First a free audit — we count your pages, duplicates and speed — then we name the sum and the deadline and fix both in the contract.
