Updating old content: A page with history costs more than a new one

Updating the old content on the site does not start with the text, but with revision: first you need to see which of the existing pages still bring impressions, which materials compete with each other and where the prices and conditions that have long been gone remain in the text. Next, we follow the priority and save the addresses - the age of the page, links and accumulated behavior are transferred together with the URL and in no other way. The term is from 10 to 45 working days, depending on how many pages really need to be touched. The revision is free, we name the amount after it.

Situations where this service delivers results

Scenario 1 of 5

They ran the blog for two or three years and left it

Twenty or forty materials are lying around, some of them are still being viewed, and the owner does not know about it, because no one has accessed the reports for a long time. Revision divides the array into what is worth refreshing and what is worth removing. It usually turns out that the smaller part works, and that's where it makes sense to start.

online store of natural cosmetics on beekeeping products

Task
To understand what is left on the website from previous years and what is no longer working.
Solution
Speed measurement, counting of entries and unique addresses in the site map, inventory of counters and structured data.
Result
Measured on 07/31/2026. The code still contains the Universal Analytics counter UA-148400680-1 - a service that Google turned off in July 2023 - and the GA4 identifier is not in the markup at all: data was not collected anywhere for three years. The site map has 271 entries for 116 unique addresses, individual products are duplicated 2-4 times on 81 product pages. At the same time, the speed is the best in a sample of eight stores: the first response in 126.3 ms, the complete loading of the markup in 172.4 ms with a weight of 196.3 KB. That is, not what is usually looked at first is outdated.

Task
Record what a site that is viewed regularly looks like.
Solution
Touring the site map with double counting, speed measurement on the main and in the directory, inventory of structured data and service files.
Result
164 addresses in the site map, of which 164 are unique - zero duplicates. The first response of the server is 244 ms on the main and 208 ms on the product catalog, the full loading of the markup is 429 ms at a weight of 528 KB. Eight types of structured data: Organization, PostalAddress, Country, QuantitativeValue, SearchAction, WebSite, ImageObject, EntryPoint. robots.txt is correct, with closed /api/, /admin/ and /_next/, analytics is connected. Measurement 01.08.2026, authorship confirmed by the owner. This is the state to which regular revision leads, not one-time work.
What's included

Complete list of work and what you get as a result

  • Revision of existing pages with division into four piles — refresh, rewrite, consolidate, remove. Further, the volume is calculated by piles, not by the total number of pages.
  • Residual Demand Materials Update: Facts, Figures, Examples, and Structure Brings It Up to What It Is Today. The address and history of the page remain in place.
  • Combining two or three pages on the same topic into one, with 301-redirects from old addresses — so that the signals are collected on one page, and not shared between three.
  • Correction of outdated facts: prices, terms of delivery, names of services, links to closed pages.
  • Aligning Text with Structured Data: The chart, phone, and price in JSON-LD should match what a human reads on the page.
  • Cleaning up technical remains — dead counters, duplicates in the site map, abandoned language branches. These things age more quietly than texts and are the last to be noticed.
  • Internal links between updated materials so that the updated page does not remain a dead end in the structure.
  • Update dates and authors' signatures where appropriate: we change the date when something has really been changed, and record what exactly.
  • Control measurement after 6–8 weeks: separate pages that have risen, separately those that have remained in place.
When this service isn't right

What's not included — so there are no surprises at delivery

  • Writing new materials on new topics is a separate work and a separate estimate
  • Changing the design and page templates
  • Rebuilding pages that have been giving 404s for a long time and have neither traffic nor links
  • Promises to return items that were previously lost
  • Translation of updated materials into other languages
Process steps

Transparent stages with approval at every step

Total duration:10–45 days

  1. Revision and distribution of pages

    3-5 working days

We download the page-by-page report from Search Console, go around the site and the site map, compare the impressions with the real state of the text. The output is a table with four piles.

  2. Plan and priorities

    1-3 working days

We agree on the order: what goes in the first wave, what cannot be touched, what pages are compiled and where the redirects lead. Here we collect the current prices, conditions and contacts from you.

  3. Refreshing residual demand pages

    3-20 working days

Main work: facts, figures, examples, structure, headings. We give the edits in batches so that you see the result not at the end, but along the way.

  4. Summary of duplicates and redirects

    1-8 working days

We choose the page that remains, transfer useful information from others to it, set 301 and edit internal links so that they lead directly to the final address.

  5. Technical reconciliation

    1-5 working days

Markup vs. text, sitemap without duplicates, dead counters gone, update dates in place. Here we check that no updated page is closed from indexing by accident.

  6. Control measurement

    1-4 working days

After 6-8 weeks after publication, we compare the views of the updated pages with the period before the changes. We show both what rose and what remained in place.

Free revision of existing content

We go through your existing pages and sort them into four piles: working and just needing a refresh; does not work, but the topic is alive - rewrite; duplicates the adjacent page - merge with it; does not work and is not needed - remove it with a redirect. This is the cheapest part of the work and at the same time the one that determines the entire subsequent volume.

What we measure

  • What else brings impressionsAccording to the Search Console report by pages for the last 12 months. Materials with residual demand are updated first: they already have a history and the effect is visible earlier.
  • Competing materialsTwo or three pages on one topic is a typical find on an old site. The search engine chooses one of them, and rarely the one you wanted.
  • Outdated facts in the textPrices, delivery terms, service names, links to closed pages. This is seen not only by the search engine, but also by the buyer.
  • Discrepancy between text and markupThe classics of old sites: one work schedule on the page, another in the structured data; there is one phone in the cap, another in the markup.
  • Technical remnants of the pastDead counters, duplicates in the site map, abandoned language branches. We measured the store, where the code still contained analytics, which was turned off back in July 2023.
  • Give an updateDo they reflect reality? A date that has not changed for three years is a signal for both the reader and the search engine.

What you get

  • Table of pages with distribution: refresh, rewrite, reduce, remove.
  • List of found obsolete facts and contradictions between text and markup.
  • Estimate the amount of work for each pile separately.
  • A 30-minute conversation on the document — with an explanation of why this is the order.

Timeline: 3-5 working days

Why is it free

Because the revision almost always reduces the volume: out of a hundred pages, it is actually necessary to update dozens. We will not sell work on the entire array without looking at the data.

What's next

Next, we proceed one by one: first the pages with residual demand, then the compilation of duplicates, then the rest. We save the addresses, and where it does not work, we put a redirect.

Short form: your contact and site URL

  • Contract, act and 30-day warranty

Every project gets a written contract: scope, deadlines, amount, acceptance procedure. After delivery — act and invoice, then 30 calendar days of warranty.

  • Sole proprietor & bank transfer

The contractor is a registered sole proprietor. Payment by invoice with closing documents.

  • Rights & access — yours

Code, design and materials transfer to you after full payment. Domain, hosting, repository and analytics are registered to you.

  • Client portal instead of email chains

During the project you get access to a portal: contracts, invoices, acts and project status in one place.

  • European clients

Among our work — projects for Norway, Bulgaria, Moldova and Spain.

  • Verifiable numbers

Every case in the portfolio comes with a link to a live site and a technical measurement.

  • Audit first, then pricing

There is no price list on the site intentionally: the scope of the same work differs multiples between clients.

  • We say "no" when unsure

If the task isn't ours or the deadline is unrealistic — we tell you upfront.

What affects the price

Why two seemingly identical tasks are priced differently

  • How many pages really need to be touchedThis counts the audit, and almost always there are fewer of them than it seems to the owner. Tens of the hundreds of pages are put to work: the rest are either not in demand, or are combined with others.
  • Editing depthUpdate the facts on the working page - an hour. Rewriting the material written about the wrong thing and combining it with two similar ones is a different order of labor costs. It is here that the time limit arises.
  • The number of takes for compilationThe summary is not just text: choosing the page that stays, the redirect, editing the internal links, and verifying that the redirect is indeed a 301, not a 302, and not a three-hop chain.
  • Status of accesses and dataSearch Console with a year's history and access to CMS make work linear. Without history, some of the findings have to be reconstructed from archival images, and it takes longer.
  • Technical layerIf the site map, markup and counters need to be cleaned together with the texts, this is a separate volume. In the measured cosmetics store, it turned out to be larger than the text one.
  • Language versionsThe updated material in one language and the old one in another give a discrepancy that is noticeable to both the reader and the search engine. A second language is a second pass through the same array.
Technologies & integrations

What we build on and what it connects to

Stack

  • Google Search Console - page report: the only source where you can see the impressions of a specific address. Limitation: 16 months of history only, and interface downloads are truncated at 1000 lines
  • Screaming Frog — site crawl and sitemap, response codes, meta tags, duplicates. Limitations: sees the markup, not the meaning, so the "refresh or rewrite" decision is made by the human
  • GA4 — behavior on updated pages. Limitations: Shows a trend, not accounting truth, because blockers and consent mode cut off some of the data
  • 301 redirects are the only way to transfer history from the old address to the new one
  • Archive snapshots of pages - when the history in Search Console no longer covers the desired period
  • Validation of JSON-LD on live pages - so that the markup declares what is actually written in the text

Integrations

  • GA4
  • Bing Webmaster Tools
Update an existing one or write a new one

How this option differs from the alternative

Start in issuethe page already has age, links, and accumulated behavior
What about takesaggregation and redirection: signals are collected at one address
Labor costs per unitfrom an hour to update the facts to a complete rewrite
Riskediting can affect what was working - so pages with impressions go first and every change is committed
When the effect is visibleafter rescan, usually 4-8 weeks
What we need from you

We can't start without this — best to prepare in advance

  1. Access to Search Console with at least a year of history—without it, auditing becomes guesswork.
  2. Current data: prices, delivery conditions, contacts, schedule. We do not guess what is true from what is written.
  3. Access to the CMS for editing and a person who can set up server-side redirects.
  4. A list of pages that cannot be touched for legal or contractual reasons.
  5. One person from your side with the right to say "yes" on the text: agreement through three conciliators extends the deadline by two times.
  6. Access to GA4 if you have it. If it is not there, tell me right away, then we measure the effect using the Search Console itself.

If something is missing — let us know, we'll help you gather it or do it as a separate task.

FAQ

Most frequently asked questions — with concrete answers

Why is it more profitable to update than to write a new one?

Because the old page already has a history: age, links, accumulated behavior. Nova is starting from scratch and will almost certainly lose in the first quarter to the one you just decided not to touch. There is one exception: if the old page is written about the wrong thing, it is cheaper to replace it and close it with a redirect.

Can I change the address during the upgrade?

It is better not to change. If the address changes, a mandatory 301 from the old to the new - otherwise the history is reset. The worst case scenario we regularly see is that the old page is removed, a new one is published at a different address, the redirect is not set, and the traffic disappears along with the old URL.

What to do with two similar articles?

Reduce to one - the one with more impressions and links - and close the second one with a redirect to it. Keeping both means that the search engine makes the choice, and your pages take impressions from each other. This is the most frequent and cheapest audit finding.

What else goes out of date besides text?

Technical layer, and it is visible from the outside. We measured a store where the code still had the Universal Analytics counter, disabled by Google in July 2023, and no GA4 property at all — that is, no data was collected for three years. Nearby, the site map had 271 entries for 116 unique addresses. Such things age more quietly than texts and cost more.

Is it enough to just change the update date?

No, and it is visible. A date without changes in the text is a signal that neither the reader nor the algorithm believes in, and on a larger scale it is also a reason to reconsider the credibility of the entire chapter. We change the date when we really changed something, and record what exactly.

Do you need to delete pages that do not give anything?

Taking your time. First, we look at whether there are external links to them and whether they are accessed from bookmarks or the newsletter. If there is none of this, delete it and put a redirect to the page closest to the topic. And we warn separately: after cleaning, the number of pages in the index may drop for some time. This is an expected course of events, not a deterioration, it's just better to know about it in advance.

What does a tracked site look like?

Roughly this: in our measurement, the manufacturer's site had 164 addresses in the sitemap, of which 164 were unique - no duplicates - eight types of structured data, correct robots.txt with closed service sections and connected analytics. First server response 208–244 ms. This is not the result of one-time work, but the result of the fact that the site was viewed regularly.

When will the effect of the update be visible?

Usually 4-8 weeks after the rescan - that's why we do the control measurement in this window. The effect is uneven: some pages rise, some remain in place, and it is more honest to show both groups than to talk about the average for the site.

Submit access to Search Console - we'll show you what pages are still working.

In response, you will receive a table with the division of pages into "refresh, rewrite, reduce, remove", a list of outdated facts and an estimate of the volume for each pile. If the audit shows that there is nothing to update, we will say so directly.

There is no price list on the site on purpose: the same work differs several times over between two clients, and a “from” figure explains nothing in that case. First a free audit — we count your pages, duplicates and speed — then we name the sum and the deadline and fix both in the contract.
